Art Mirrors Life

Art mirrors life, book titles that describe the 2016 US Election
2 Comments

A week has passed since the 2016 US Presidential election and I’m still reeling from  shock.  For some reason, titles of classic novels keep swirling in my head —  examples where art seems to mirror life. I worry about the future of my country, of course.  The comfort is, I’m not alone in that worry.  Enough of us exist to give me hope the nation will survive.   Still, I am a writer and, for me, literature represents humankind’s highest form of expression.  So, I’ve decided to make lemonade out of last week’s lemon and invite my readers to join me in a game of shock and awe.

Below are titles from literature familiar to most of us.  They seem to capture the spirit of the election.  Will the list make you smile or shake your head?  In either case,  get your little grey cells going and send me your titles.  Make me laugh or cry.

Robert Louis Stevenson's, "The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde." The only explanation I can imagine that might explain why so many Americans are almost equally divided is that each side is seeing and reacting to a completely different person. It truly is "A Tale of Two Cities." The best of times and the worst of times...
