Life Lived As A Time Lord

“I don’t know whether I’m coming or going,” people sometimes say when they’re being pulled in several different directions. I feel the same way about my presence on the internet. So many bits and bytes of me are floating in the Cloud, I’m not sure how to maintain my identi

2013 has been a banner year for many of my artistic Facebook friends. Betty Dravis is writing a script for the film, 6 Packs of Blood. Katie Kelly has snagged a big agent for her upcoming book; Madeline Roosevelt has received an award for her work as a make-up artist. Yoly Fivas has c

A month ago, I was a panelist at a gathering of professional women, and there I mentioned I didn’t think leadership always meant being at the front of the line.  Sometimes, leadership  meant standing back and enabling others to achieve their goals — the position a mother mig

Pigs Can’t Fly, But They Can Slide Down A Slippery Slope

“Pigs get fat, hogs get slaughtered.” The adage is a warning to the greedy, but when I look back on the financial debacle of 2008, I have to say somehow the adage got it wrong. Hogs of the financial system survived while the rest of the litter got killed, meaning you, me and all t

Private Gardens/Secret Gardens

I stumbled across another of those “best” lists we see everywhere. This one was in the December issue of Vanity Fair. On this occasion, the list was drafted by museum curators, critics and art professors who were asked “to name the six most important living artists.” (“Paint

I met a friend for coffee at a neighborhood shop last week. We hadn’t gotten together for some time and I’d missed our chats. The minute she walked through the door I could see the malaise that hung about her. Outwardly, she looked well. Her hair was recently trimmed and she was s
