The other day a nurse told me a story about an 88 year-old woman who had come into the doctor’s office with a concern. The patient and her boyfriend were having sex every day. She worried if it might cause a health problem. Surprised, the nurse laughed and told the older woman to

How To Create A Miracle

Several years ago, I spent 10 days at Buddhist retreat in Berkley. Naturally, there was much talk about good and bad karma — the notion that we reap what we sow. Good deeds will attract good outcomes; bad deeds will attract bad outcomes. Emotionally, the sentiment satisfies my d

A Voice Of Conscience Is Silenced

Dangerous Words

Dec 26, 2017

Two of the most dangerous words in any language are “should” and “ought.” Generally, they are used to create divisions between those who follow the rules and those who don’t. Society needs rules, of course, but few of them need the heft of Biblical standards. Most transgress

Another Time Out

I admit it.  I can’t talk and chew gum at the same time.  Keeping my blog afloat while I finish the third edit of my memoir is beyond me.  I have 60 pages to go and at the glacial rate of 3 pages a day, I need to devote another 20 days of uninterrupted time to complete this versi
